Ciara DeRyke pleads guilty to charges connected to daughter’s death

EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ill. (WTHI) – An Illinois woman charged with obstruction of a peace officer in connection to her daughter’s death pleaded guilty to that charge Tuesday.

Ciara DeRyke, 26 of Watson, Illinois, is accused of lying to police following her daughter, 7-year-old Willow Long’s 2013 death.

DeRyke’s charge, obstruction of a peace officer is a misdemeanor charge; she was sentenced to 18 months probation and four months in the Effingham County Jail.

Ciara DeRyke’s brother, Justin DeRyke is charged with first degree murder. Justin DeRyke, in September, admitted to police he stabbed Willow Long in the heart and slit her throat.

Ciara DeRyke reported Willow missing from their Watson, Illinois home in September. A massive, community-wide search led to the discovery of Willow Long’s body.

Justin DeRyke is scheduled to appear in court for trial February 11th. If convicted on any part of the indictment, Justin DeRyke faces a mandatory sentence of natural life in prison.
