TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – February is Heart health and Awareness month and Terre Haute officials want to help keep you safe.
On Thursday, Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett proclaimed Friday, Feb. 7 Go Red for Women Day. It’s an effort to encourage women and men to educate themselves on the risks of heart disease.
Health experts say heart disease is the number one killer of men and women across the United States.
“We’re trying to increase awareness by not just wearing red but also being a more active part in the community, getting our patients to become tested, and be proactive with prevention, not just treatment for heart disease,” Tony Nasser, M.D. said.
The American Heart Association has sponsored National Wear Red Day for over 10 years.
