Saline shortage at hospitals

CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WA nationwide shortage of saline solution is impacting Wabash Valley hospitals.

Saline solution is used in hospitals for a variety of things, as a vehicle for medication and as a way to hydrate patients.

The height of flu season this February is unlikely to help the shortage.

St. Vincent Clay Hospital says they’re only about to keep about a weeks worth of the solution on hand.

The shortage started a couple months ago, and since then, the solution has been on back-order by the three medical suppliers that sell it.

As of now, St. Vincent Clay Hospital says they’re told the earliest relief might not be felt until mid-April. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
