Winter stats backing tough winter feelings

TERRE HAUTE, IND (WTHI) – Cold air and snow covered yards. Who isn’t ready to trade it all out for warmer temperatures and green grass? Just about all of us are looking forward to driving with the windows down and basking in the summer sunshine. But before all that, we still have to get through winter.

There is still have a good amount of old piled snow now mixing with new. Snow that feels like it’s never going to melt away or end, but think about this, we’ve already seen closer to 38″ inches of accumulated snowfall, some quick math, That’s over 3 feet of snow, over 3 feet of snow.

A bulk of that fell on us last month, 22.6″ to be exact. We saw our first snowfall on December 5th and it continued to fall, building to 6.5″ of snow for the month of December. Not only are roses and chocolate adding up for your mid February, but we’ve collected over 9″ of snow too.

There’s no question, this winter has been brutal. It’s worn out our cars, worn out our streets and it’s even worn out most of us.

That cold winter attitude seems pretty justified, especially when you look at the facts. We’ve seen 13 mornings below zero. Some days it’s been too cold to start school on time and most of us have had to suffer through a freezing drive, as we shiver and wait for our cars to warm up.

Those warmer temperatures seem all but a distant memory, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Now spring is 34 days away, and before you know it, we’ll be trying to find a way to stay cool. Terre Haute has broke 6 morning low records this winter season, one falling all the way down to -16 degrees.
