If you ride Terre Haute city buses you could be in a new ride this summer.
The city has entered into a municipal lease to buy six new buses. Budget constraints forced the city to explore options in buying that many buses, which cost $540,000.
The lease allows for an annual payment of just over $100,000 for five years.
The city says this is the best way to help its aging fleet.
“The smaller buses just aren’t up to it,” said Brad Miller, transportation director. “The bus routes are longer. The hours we run have changed. We just need something that will stand up better under the strains.”
The buses, which will arrive sometime in June, are bigger, more durable and have better air conditioning.
