Abdul-Qaadir named MVC Player of the Week

Senior guard Bilqis Abdul-Qaadir has been named this week’s Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Abdul-Qaadir led the Sycamores to a weekend sweep of Missouri State and Wichita State on the road. She posted her first career double-double in Sunday’s 63-51 win over Wichita State with 12 points and a career-high 11 assists. The 11 assists matched the most assists in a game since Sycamore great Mel Boeglin had 11 vs. Southern Illinois on Feb. 24, 2006.

With the win, Abdul-Qaadir helped the Sycamores win in Wichita, Kan. for the first time since the 2008-09 season and snap the Shockers 12 game home win streak.

Against Missouri State, the Springfield, Mass. native had 11 points along with three assists and no turnovers as she helped ISU rout the Bears, 73-37. The win secured the series sweep over the Bears for the second-straight year.

On the weekend, Abdul-Qaadir scored 23 points and put her career point total at 992, including a team-high 340 points in her lone season as a Sycamore. In addition, she posted a 2-to-1 turnover ratio on 14 assists and just seven turnovers in 65 minutes of action.

ISU is back at the Hulman Center this weekend for the final time of the 2013-14 season as it hosts Loyola on Friday and Bradley on Sunday. Seniors Anna Munn and Abdul-Qaadir will be honored on Sunday versus the Braves.
