News 10 has a crew at the scene of a structure fire at Sunrise Towers in Sullivan, Ind.

Officials report the fire started just after noon on Thursday on the 5th floor and has been contained to a single room.

Smoke filled both the 5th and the 6th floors, several floors sustained water damage and the north tower had to be evacuated.

Residents were taken to the Sullivan High School gym and will be there until further notice.

Sullivan’s fire chief said their low man power numbers meant they needed help from several different companies to contain the fire.

“It took us a little bit (of time) to fight the blaze once we got everything set up,” chief Rob Robertson said. “(We have a) low staff right now. Once we were able to get some other departments in here and get them working with us, we were able to get it taken care of.”
