One death confirmed in daycare fire


SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTHI) – UPDATE: The Sullivan County coroner has confirmed the victim in the early morning daycare fire was a 17-month-old female. Officials report she died of smoke inhalation.

The name of the victim has not been released yet.


The coroner has confirmed to News 10 that one person has died in an early morning daycare fire.

Just before 6:00 Tuesday morning, crews were called to Waterman’s Daycare located at 541 East Silver Street on the city’s south side.

The fire chief tells News 10 that six children and one adult were inside at the time, but one of the children did not make it out alive.

As of 8:30 a.m., fire and emergency crews remained on the scene.
