TH city council again looking at financial consultant for budget

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – Terre haute’s City Council asking for an extra set of eyes for the budget.

As 2014 gets underway, the council again asked for money set aside for a financial consultant. The mayor asked that the money not come from his controller’s budget; which happened last year.

He also asked the city council in the future budget this position into their spending. But, as for this year before the council approves the money, they sat down with the mayor.

“In meeting with the mayor, councilman (Neil) Garrison and I, sat down and found another source of funding to be able to make that happen,” Councilman John Mullican said.

“We have two financial consultants that work for us now.” Mayor Duke Bennett said. “Plus some other legal services, so we just couldn’t take another $20,000 hit.”

The council tabled the consultant issue until next month. At that point, they will make the decision to appropriate the money. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
