Vintage bridal shower hopes to raise money

LAWRENCE CO., Ill. (WTHI) – The Lawrence County, Illinois Historical Society is hosting a weekend event aimed at raising a little bit of cash.

And the end result may have some people saying I do.

It’s a vintage bridal shower, showing some of Lawrence County’s best wedding gowns.

The gowns belonged to women who married in Lawrence County, as early as the 1850’s.

And the money raised will go toward a great cause.

Organizers say it also helps some people remember the past!

“Oh it’s fun having the ladies of the community bring us their wedding albums, and their pictures and tell us their stories and uh talking to their husbands if they come along and saying do you remember that beautiful young bride that walked down the aisle?” Donna Burton, from the Historical Society said.

Money raised in this event will go to the historical society’s Lawrenceville Square office.

It’ll help up-keep many of the society’s historic pieces.

The event is Saturday at United Methodist Church in Bridgeport.

It starts at 2:00 central time and admission is $10.
