BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) – Multiple reports indicate that I.U. football player Isaac Griffith is in a medically induced coma in a Florida hospital.

Officials say Griffith was involved in a swimming accident Monday.

Griffiths’ father, Shannon, the head football coach at Manchester College, released a statement on Twitter saying that his son was caught in an accident ” involving a rip current ” while with friends on spring break in Sarasota, Florida. He says his son is “stable but still critical, at this point.”

Griffith is a member of Indiana’s 2013 recruiting class. He set records at Homestead High School near Fort Wayne before becoming the first player to commit in that class for Indiana University.

He had 37 touchdown catches in high school and was an all-state player as a senior.

“We ask for your thoughts and prayers,” Shannon Griffith tweeted.
