WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A water main break left more than a foot of water in the basement of a building on Purdue’s campus.
It happened late Friday night in Wetherill Laboratory of Chemistry.
The Purdue Fire and Police Departments, as well as structural engineers and utility workers, were called in to investigate. As of early Saturday morning, the cause was still unknown.
Crews were shutting off power to Wetherill so they could safely clear out the water and assess the damage. Assistant Purdue Fire Chief Kevin Clark said it would likely take hours to dry out the building. He said he hoped they could get everything fixed by the time students return from spring break.
It’s unclear just how much damage was done, but Clark said it was limited mostly to the basement.
