Celery Bog making a full recovery

Celery-Bog

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI)- After a drought in 2012 nearly drained the Celery Bog in West Lafayette, it has made a complete comeback. Heavy snow over the winter raised water levels back up to pre-drought levels.

Native birds are migrating back and the fish population is returning to normal.

West Lafayette Parks Stewardship Director Dan Dunten said even though the bog dried up, mother nature took care of the recovery.

“We still had pockets of deeper water, so we still had fish and other animals that were surviving,” Dunten said. “We knew eventually the water would come back like it happens in nature. We had a pretty good feeling that everything would come back fine.”

Dunten said thousands of minnows were released into the bog to allow bass and other fish to multiply more quickly.
