TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – An active shooter drill was hosted at Otter Creek Middle School on Tuesday afternoon.
Teachers from north side schools lined the hallways to see the action first hand.
The active shooter roamed the halls for three minutes before police arrived. That was the police response time in the sandy hook shooting.
A teacher told News 10 the drill will remind her to keep her classroom door locked.
“When the shooter came down the hall, he checked the doors, and the doors where he came in and fired shots were unlocked,” said Teresa Jenkins, teacher. “So what I’m taking from that is I’m making sure my door is always locked, so we’re locked safe inside and no one can get in.”
Police say if a teacher can keep a shooter at bay for three minutes that will save lives.
