Power bill scammers

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) Scam artists are trolling for money and using your power bill as bait.

Duke Energy and local police are warning of a new scam. Officials said the scam artists are calling people and telling them their power bill is due.

Then they threaten to cut off power if the bill isn’t paid in the next 30 minutes…

Duke Energy said demanding cash immediately is the first part of the tip off that this is a scam!

“In our business we leave door hangers and things like that,” Rick Burger from Duke Energy said. “We never, never ask for that money on the spot.”

Duke Energy and Terre Haute police are asking that if you or someone you know has been affected to call them immediately.
