VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – Scam artists are trolling for money and using your power bill as bait.

Duke Energy and local police are warning of a new scam. They say the scam artists are calling people and telling them their power bill is due.

Then, they threaten to cut off power if the bill isn’t paid in the next 30 minutes. This is what Duke Energy says is the first part of the tip off that you should look for.

“You’re always in our business we leave door hangers and things like that we never, never ask for that money on the spot…” said Rick Burger, Duke Energy.

Duke Energy and Terre Haute police are asking that if you or someone you know has been affected to call them immediately. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
