Several local players starting the year in Minor Leagues

Many Wabash Valley standouts line the Minor Leagues this season.

Josh Phegley, who got a taste of the big leagues last year, headlines the group. Josh will start the season for the White Sox AAA affiliate in Charlotte.

Another catcher starting the year in AAA is former North Knox star Nevin Ashley. Ashley is now with the Pirates organization and will play his home games in Indianapolis.

Derek Eitel will start in AAA for the Reno Aces. Eitel had a good year on the mound last year. He could be an option for relief help if the Diamondbacks need it this year.

Brady Shoemaker has a new team. The Marlins selected Shoemaker in the minor league portion of the Rule 5 draft. Shoemaker will start the year in Jacksonville with the Marlins AA affiliate.

Finally, former West Vigo and Indiana State standout Jeremy Lucas will start the year in Carolina at the High A affiliate for the Cleveland Indians. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
