INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indiana Governor Mike Pence released a statement on the shooting at Fort Hood Wednesday.
Officials say a soldier opened fire Wednesday on fellow service members at the Fort Hood military base, killing three people and wounding 16 before committing suicide.
“As we come together to acknowledge the good work all of you are doing in supporting our veterans and National Guard members, we are burdened by the tragedy that took place yesterday at Fort Hood in Texas. Hoosiers across our state mourn the loss of life and injury at Fort Hood and stand with grateful hearts with those who serve at home and abroad,” Pence said at the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Employer Awards Lunch in Indianapolis Thursday.
WTHI’s sister station, WISH-TV’s news gathering partner the Republic reports two Indiana families had a connection at Fort Hood. E4 Specialist Zach Sylvia and his wife Ashley kept in touch throughout Wednesday night’s incident through social media. Zach’s family lives in North Vernon and Ashley’s family lives in Columbus. The couple has a 21-month old daughter. The family was safely reunited after the incident.
