KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – The Knox County Sheriff’s Department Wednesday sat down with News 10 to talk about a recent situation involving Vigo County and an alleged act of sexual abuse that took place at an area hotel.
According to its website, here, Knox County has 62 registered sex offenders on its Sex Offender Registry list.
“Identify people, when someone moves into your neighborhood, you’re not familiar with them, there’s avenues to take nowadays that’s very simple,” said Knox County Sheriff Mike Morris.
The alleged act in Terre Haute had Knox County authorities taking a close look at their registered sex offenders, to make sure everything checked out. News 10 cross-referenced offender addresses with nearby schools and parks and could not find a violator in vicinity.
Despite the offenders registered to the list with addresses, a select few offenders did not have registered addresses. Sheriff Morris noted these offenders were listed as homeless, and required careful ‘line-of-sight’ supervision. But whether addresses were listed or not, authorities noted they’re job is to find people.
“There’s many different ways we can do it, we can knock on the door, we can track their e-mail, we can track their cell phone if we have the information, we can track vehicles, so, we will track them down, and hopefully incarcerate them, and put them on the path their supposed to be on,” said the Sheriff.
