TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – Indiana’s 2014 Teacher of the year made a stop in Terre Haute today. State Superintendent Glenda Ritz named Steve Perkins of Hymera, Indiana, Teacher of the Year in October 2013. Perkins is a Latin teacher at North Central High School. On Friday Perkins stopped by Indiana State University. He spoke to students in ISU’S Total program about the importance of education. “Education is more than just the curriculum. There are students, there are families, and there are colleagues who are all fellow human beings. And there’s a shared journey of discovery. And we want them to realize that,” Perkins said As Indiana’s “Teacher of the Year” Perkins works with the “Indiana Department of Education” and Hoosier lawmakers, serving as a voice for classroom teacher’s across the state.
