Weatherford visits with local kids

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – Just a day before Saturday’s Rush the Punter run, NFL star Steve Weatherford spent part of his day at Pacesetter Sports in Terre Haute.

A student from each elementary school in Vigo County received a free pair of shoes.

It’s an annual event Weatherford organizes to give back to his community.

He says it’s important to always remember where you come from.

“It’s special for me to come back here and be able to kind of leverage my celebrity as a professional athlete to help impact kids lives and inspire them and motivate them,” Weatherford added

The Rush the Punter 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run is Saturday morning at Fairbanks Park in Terre Haute.

It starts at 9 :00 a.m. and lasts through 11:00 a.m.

This is the 3rd year for the event. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
