TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – Terre Haute residents had the chance to enjoy a good flight over the city on Saturday.

The Indiana State University Flight Academy hosted a Fly-in, Drive-in fundraiser out at the Terre Haute International airport.

The community learned about the flight academy along with its student pilots. For just $20 you could even board a flight around the city of Terre Haute.

To members of the aviation teams, it’s about more than just raising money for competition.

“It’s great to see a lot of our students out here today to support our teams and you know, part of this is not just to raise money for those two groups but to just let the community know that hey we have aviation at ISU,” said Melanie Abel, aviation technology instructor. “You know we offer training, this is what we have and we like to get everyone out here to support us and to come visit the Terre Haute national airport for those who have never been there before.”

The Sycamores have participated in the air race classic for three years – from 2009 to 2011.

The team even took home top collegiate honors their first year.

If you would like to donate to the Indiana State University Flight Academy for the aviation teams, you can send a check made out to ISU Women in Aviation to 650 Cherry Street, Terre Haute, Indiana, 47809.
