TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – A new era begins this week in Vigo County. The Clerk’s Office unveiled the concept of voting centers throughout the county. One of the eight locations is Baesler’s Market on the east side of Terre Haute.
After a slow start, things ran more smoothly at the voting center at Baesler’s Market. A lot of planning and preparation went into implementing these centers. With anything new and that involves computers, you’re going to have growing pains. A minor glitch Monday morning delayed some voters here as the center first opened around 10.
That glitch was quickly fixed.
The idea behind voting centers is simple. All Vigo County voters can vote at any of the eight locations, including Baeslers, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m all this week. This added convenience will hopefully get more people to vote in our elections.
“They can go anywhere, that’s the thing. They don’t have to go to one specific spot. They can go anywhere and vote,” said Vigo County Clerk Dave Crockett.
Here are the eight voting center locations:
Vigo County Annex, 127 Oak Street, Terre Haute
Baesler’s Market, 2900 Poplar Street, Terre Haute
Old State Police Post, 7751 S. US Hwy 41, Terre Haute
Valley Grill, 2170 N. 3rd Street, Terre Haute
Booker T. Washington Center, 1103 S.13th Street, Terre Haute
New Life Fellowship Church, 7849 Wabash Avenue, Terre Haute
West Vigo Community Center, 127 W. Johnson Avenue, West Terre Haute
Kroger North, 2140 Ft. Harrison Road, Terre Haute
They’ll be open again next week, opening at 8 a.m. instead of ten. They’ll also be open on Election Day from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
