Deadline deal makes Vincennes pool pavement priority

Pool Pavement

VINCENNES, Ind. (WTHI) – A last minute deal, which will run right up to Rainbow Park Pool’s opening day is set to add pavement to the parking lot surrounding the area in Gregg Park. The City’s Board of Works accepted a bid Tuesday night for the work. Both the pavement completion date, and the pool’s grand opening are within days of one another.

At Tuesday’s meeting, City Engineer John Sprague told reporters paving crews would have less than a month to get the asphalt down.

“The official completion date in the contract as it currently sits, is May 28,” said Sprague.

In a March interview with News 10, Vincennes Parks and Recreation Department Superintendent Steve Beaman noted Rainbow Park Pool should be ready for swimmers around that same time.

“We’re still looking at that memorial day, the 26th through the 31st that week of opening this facility,” said Beaman.

The pool’s parking lot faces problems like chipped pavement and potholes; a plan in which Milestone Contractors, a Bloomington based company, plans to fix. City leaders say the contractors will raise the asphalt’s height. The biggest challenge city leaders say the crews would face:

“I think with the weather we’re dealing with this week, it’s probably going to be next week, they have a lot of equipment to mobilize,” said Sprague. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
