Vincennes Community schools put on lock down Wed.

VINCENNES, Ind. (WTHI) – Vincennes Community schools were placed on heightened watch on Wednesday due to two separate events.

The first incident was regarding an AWOL individual in the Vincennes area of who the Vincennes Police Department was trying to locate.

Schools were asked to double check all exterior doors and to be aware of all visitors going in and out of the buildings. Within 30 minutes of being alerted, VPD had apprehended the individual.

The middle and high school were put on a full, complete lock down as an event was unfolding closer to the two properties.

The lock down lasted less than two minutes and the Vincennes Police Department had the situation under control.

At the time of the lock down, the elementary school was in the middle of dismissal. Buses/transportation heading in the general direction of the incident were held at the school.

No student, staff member or building was in immediate danger or harm.
