Accident on SR 42 with life threatening injuries

PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – Indiana State Police and Putnam County emergency agencies responded to an accident with life threatening injuries Wednesday evening.

The two-vehicle crash happened at 1420 East State Road 42 near Cloverdale around 10:30 p.m.

Officials report Mark Patterson, 50 of Cloverdale, was backing his semi-tractor into his driveway from State Road 42 when he states he was struck on the side of the semi by a Ford SUV.

The SUV was driven by Jack Rhoden, 69 of Cloverdale.

Rhoden had to be extricated from the vehicle by Cloverdale Fire Rescue, stabilized by Putnam County Operation Life EMS and then airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Officials report Rhoden was not wearing a seat belt and appeared to have suffered multiple fractures and lacerations that appeared to be life threatening.

Patterson was slightly injured and treated at the scene.

State Road 42 was closed for approximately an hour and a half for crash investigation and clean-up. Drugs and/or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
