TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – Some organizations need monetary support – this one needs your shoes!

Baptist Collegiate Ministry collected old shoes on Saturday and at the last count they collected more than 17,000 pairs.

But, they’re working to reach a goal of 75,000!

From heels to flip flops, they are accepting any type of lightly used footwear. The shoes will then be given to those in need in third world countries.

“In addition to just doing something for the sake of being nice to those in third world countries, it’s more than just putting a shoe on somebody,” said Grant Tryon, Baptist Collegiate Ministry. “It’s preventing disease and its keeping shoes out of landfill that don’t have to be.”

97 bags of shoes were shipped already.

If you’d like to help you can still donate by contacting Rose Bear by phone at (812) 232-7198 or email at huldah22@yahoo.com.
