Vigo Voting Centers “Easy and Convenient”

WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – We’re less than 12 hours away from the polls opening on Election Day.  Vigo County’s Clerk says many of you have already voted thanks to voting centers.  After an initial computer glitch, it’s been smooth sailing for the county’s voting centers heading into Election Day.

After a slow start, things picked up here at the voting center found inside the West Vigo Community Center.  And word is out not only that you can vote here, but that it’s also simple and user friendly.

“I think the computer made it easier,” said Jane Voyls of West Terre Haute.  “I didn’t have a problem with it.  Went right through it very quickly, over and finished with it in a couple of minutes.”

“You just have to read.  You see, I used to tell my husband that.  You have to read to get the instructions!” joked Judith Gardner.  I asked her did he ever listen to her.  Judith’s response: “no, no he didn’t.”

Don’t worry.  Mr. Gardner still got his ballot cast, as have many others here on the west side of the county.  This is an area many say decides Vigo County elections.

“You usually have a high turnout in sugar creek township,” said Dave Crockett, the Vigo County Clerk.

Those who run this voting center told us Monday was their busiest day so far, and they anticipate an even busier day tomorrow.

“My friends shared this with me today, so that’s why I’m here,” said Jane.

One common thread that voters told me was they liked the ease and convenience voting centers give them, having more time to vote and in their home town.  But still most people still like to vote on Election Day, and Vigo County will accommodate the increase in voters by increasing the number of voting centers available.

“We’ve just tried to make it so that everyplace in the county is easy for people to get to,” said Crockett.
