VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – With the summer travel season quickly approaching, Indiana State Police offer this advice to motorists.

Slow down when driving through construction zones.

A state police sergeant says a speeding ticket in a construction zone can cost you three times higher than normal.

Troopers and INDOT are partnering once again for the safety of those working in construction zones, and also other motorists.

“If I have to chase somebody out of the zone because they’re not paying attention, knocking barrels down, or driving too fast for these conditions, it just takes away from their safety,” Indiana State Police Sergeant Chris Wright said.

Last year 13 people were killed and more than 300 were injured in INDOT work zones. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
