VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – Vigo county voters are running into a few growing pains this Tuesday as they head to the polls.

Primary Election day kicked off in Indiana at 6 o’clock this morning.

News 10 headed to Baesler’s Market in Terre Haute and found voters were in line on average for 15 to 20 minutes.

Jay Favre, a Vigo County voter was not happy with the new process, he says “Now some lady is talking about we have to get some sort of ticket thing. I don’t even know what they are talking about. It was a lot simpler when we went to our local areas and walked through the line. It wasn’t all this mess. I don’t think I stood in line to vote my entire life.”

Due to the long lines several voters are not waiting to vote and leaving before they cast their ballots.

Isabel Ugo, an official Electronic Clerk says voters can’t do that after checking-in and getting a ticket.

“We have found out, they can not do that because they can give that ticket to someone else. So they’re saying once voters sign-in they have to stay to vote. Once they get that ticket they can not leave, if they leave they can not vote.” said Ugo.

The polling centers are open till 6pm Tuesday. Officials ask that voters don’t sign-in unless they plan to wait in line.
