Are dandelions taking over your yard?

“Weeds”, no one likes them and “pesky dandelions” have been painting your yard yellow but strangling the life out of it. Here are a few tips to help combat those yellow weeds.

“The dandelion weed seems to be very bountiful this year, i’ve noticed it to be pretty heavy,” said Tom Cummins of Apple House.

Taraxacum, a tricky little word for tricky little weeds and the most common is the dandelion. A lion amongst weeds and the kingdom is your yard.

They tend to make an appearance now right when you want your yard looking fresh and green. Cummins of The Apple House says this is the time of the year that we see them and they aren’t going anywhere.

“The thing about a dandelion is that it’s a perennial, it seeds into your yard and unlike other weeds that are annual in nature and die off after the first frost, and dandelions are perennials and will stay with you until you want to get rid of them,” said Cummins.

Unfortunately they spread like cavities “some dandelions have a tap root 10 inches long, if you don’t pull it out it will come right back” so pulling them isn’t an option, this is how you can help wilt away those weeds.

“To get them under control isn’t very difficult; you can utilize a weed and feed. You can also use a liquid control like a weed beater ultra which is very effective against easy weeds like dandelions and other hard to get rid of weeds,” said Cummins.

But once they’re gone, it doesn’t mean you are of scott free, so here are some ways to prevent another break out

“First of all would be to get a nice thick lawn going, by fertilization and over seeding, that type of thing. It won’t happen in 5 minutes it is a process but anyone who has a nice thick lawn will avoid weeds,” said Cummins.
