INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The state of Indiana launched a new IN.gov website and iOS app on Wednesday. The site focuses on personalization and is more user friendly for those using the site on their iPhones.
Officials said the website was remapped to make it easier to find specific agencies. There are seven categories at the top of the site: Business & Agriculture, Residents, Government, Education, Taxes & Finance, Visiting & Playing and Family & Health. Each of the seven categories serves as its own portal, featuring the top content from those specific agencies.
The site also has a map with multiple layers to find local state offices, parks and historical archives.
Indiana also created a companion iOS app for IN.gov, though the website is mobile compatible, this app delivers content in a native format. The primary function of the app is to provide access to all state iOS apps in a single spot. The app allows access to the calendar database and easily lets users add an event to their personal calendar or read any of the news releases. An Android app is in development.
Officials said 40 percent of traffic comes from mobile users so the homepage is horizontally swipe compatible.
Users can now log into the site via existing social media accounts or by creating a new account. The content that users visit will then stay on their homepage.
The site was developed by the Indiana Office of Technology, Indiana Interactive and Ball State University’s Emerging Technology unit.
