TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – A legendary native son of Terre Haute will return to speak at graduation.
Baseball great, Tommy John, takes on the role of ‘Guest Valedictorian Speaker’ for Terre Haute North High School’s class of 2014 graduation on June 8.
Tommy John was valedictorian of his own class at Gerstmeyer High School in 1961, but he did not speak at the ceremony.
The retired big-league pitcher was in town in November to help dedicate a Terre Haute baseball diamond as Tommy John Field.
That field was the last place he played before he turned pro. Tommy John played 26 years in the majors, recording 288 pitching wins.
