TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – The Terre Haute Police Department honored its fallen officers Friday.

The department held its annual memorial outside Terre Haute Police Offices.

It was a time for officers to reflect and remember.

Officials say the ceremony also starts National Police Week.

During National Police Week the department sends officers to Washington D.C. To pay respect to law enforcement officers lost around the country.

“It’s at home to me ever since we lost Brent Long. He was a close friend of mine. So its always been a special ceremony to us,” Sergeant Dale Blunk, from the Terre Haute Police Department said.

In Washington D.C. Officers will visit the Fallen Officers Memorial and hold a candlelight vigil.

They also celebrate “Police Officers” day which is on May 15th.
