Body recovered from Daviess County lake

DAVIESS COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – A body was recovered Saturday morning from Dogwood Lake in Daviess County after a boating incident the night before.

Investigators report Frank Refalo, 51 from Mt. Washington, KY, and Jacob Duncan, 25 from Louisville, KY, were camping at Glendale Fish and Wildlife Area.

On Friday night, while taking a boat ride, the 14 foot motorboat began taking on water and later sank. Refalo was able to hold on to a cooler to stay afloat.

A nearby camper heard their calls for help and was able to assist using his own boat. Refalo was pulled from the water but they had lost contact with Duncan.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene.

Daviess County Sheriff’s Department divers were able to locate the boat and mark the location.

Refalo was transported to the Daviess County Community Hospital on Friday night where he was treated for hypothermia and later released.

On Saturday morning just before 9 a.m., the body of Jacob Duncan was recovered by Indiana Conservation Officer divers in 10 feet of water about 30 feet from where the boat had been discovered.

An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday afternoon in Daviess County.

The accident is still under investigation. Officials believe alcohol was a contributing factor in the boat accident. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
