TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – We’ve been talking a lot about insects lately from gnats to caterpillars and the weather is just about ripe for all of the bugs to start bugging.
So what’s the next wave of pests that will be popping into your life, below you can know more about the buggy situation.
“We will be out there fighting the insects this summer like always,” explained Jim Luzar, Extension Educator at Purdue University.
Just to get it out of the way now the cold winter didn’t pay us any favors for the insects that are coming out. In fact Luzar explains why it’s just about perfect now for breeding.
“A lot of folks were reconciling the idea that maybe the harsh winter will keep us from the insect pressure this year, but as the warm weather returns it will still build a perfectly fine habitat for insects to breed,” said Luzar.
“We have areas that have standing water, we will have to remember that mosquitoes like to lay eggs and they will hatch in a few weeks in standing water,” said Luzar.
But the flowing water has spawned aggravating gnats and unfortunately the rain showers will provide standing sanctions for mosquito multiplication.
So the best way to prepare for what is to come is to eliminate those pools of water around your house and don’t forget about the gutters.
Agriculture experts say it’s not just the everyday pest we will be ready for, farmers will also need to be prepared for cutworms when their crops start to mature.
