Sullivan County schools see major changes next year

SULLIVAN COUNTY,Ind. (WTHI) – In light of the closings of Dugger Elementary and High Schools, major changes are coming to most of the remaining schools in the Northeast Sullivan School Corporation.

Hymera Elementary will be renamed will be renamed Northeast East Elementary School, while Farmersburg Elementary will be known as Northeast North Elementary School.

The elementary school in Shelburn will become home of Northeast Middle School.

Also, all schools in the corporation will have the same mascot as North Central High School, the Thunderbirds.

All school colors will be green, black and white.

“We’re hoping that this change will give a fresh start to all the students and all the families involved, and we’re hoping to build some unity between the schools that are across the district,” Superintendent Dr. Mark Baker said.

The changes take affect next school year.
