Family and friends hold 2nd annual memorial event

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – Leylahnd Owens of Terre Haute was killed two years ago by a drunk driver.

On Thursday, his family remembered him by raising awareness.

The ‘Beleyve Memorial’ held its 2nd annual event.

The event had music had music, games, a car and bike show, dunk tank, and even a bounce house for the little ones.

People could also go to the event to pledge not to drink and drive.

The Owens family feels this is an important message.

“I just want to bring awareness to the fact that you know you may think you’re okay to drive. You can do anything. You can walk, you can talk…but that doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t kill someone on the way home,” Erica Owens told us.

Along with raising awareness about drunk driving, the event helped raise money for a scholarship in Leylahnd’s name.
