At last check over 157 million people use social media in the United States. That’s why one Terre Haute city councilman thinks its one of the best ways to promote the city.
“What usually happens in social media is, businesses are trying to get information out there about their business or organization,” Councilman Neil Garrison said.
Which posed the question to Garrison: why not use social media to attract businesses and people to Terre Haute?
“The social aspect is what they are really looking for,” Garrison said. “So in order to get good information out there we also have to do it in something that (people will) take interest in or humorous or whatever and that’s where the ventriloquist dummy came in.”
His name is Rocky and in the videos he is the tour guide to Terre Haute.
“I like it behind the camera instead of in front of the camera,” Garrison said. “I let him do all the talking. He repeats everything I want him to say so it works out pretty good.”
Rocky shows off downtown’s art district, stops by the river, and even hangs out at the waste water treatment plant.
Garrison just hopes Rocky’s jokes and travels will get the word out across the web about Terre Haute.
