VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – If you have an 812 area code, dialing a local phone number will take a few more steps soon.

News 10 told you a few weeks ago about the local dialing change that goes into effect in September.

In order to dial a local number, you will first have to dial 812 because the 812 area code will be out of numbers.

New numbers in the area served by the 812 area code will receive an area code of 930.

Your number doesn’t change if you already have an 812 number.

You can start anytime but make sure you’re in the habit by September 6 when the transition period ends.
