PUTNAM COUNTY, Fl. (WTHI) – On Friday, around 2:00 p.m., officials in Putnam County, Florida arrested a man wanted for murder in Terre Haute.
Terre Haute police had an arrest warrant out for Alex Hallett-Miles for the homicide that happened on 5th and Swan Streets in Terre Haute in late May.
Deputies from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office responded to 117 Lake Galilee Drive in Hawthorne, Florida after receiving a tip.
Officials then arrested Hallett-Miles.
Hallett-Miles initially provided a false name to deputies but eventually disclosed his real identity
and was arrested on the warrant.
He is currently held in the Putnam County jail without bond, awaiting extradition to Indiana.
Terre Haute police were notified of his arrest Friday. They did receive information he had fled to Florida early in the investigation.
Officials say they are grateful to Florida’s Putnam County SHeriff’s Department and all other law enforcement agencies who assisted them in trying to locate this suspect.
Terre Haute police will provide more details once Hallett-Miles is returned to the state.
In May, the body of Steven Vicars-Goings was found at the intersection of 5th and Swan Streets in Terre Haute.
According to police, Vicars-Goings engaged in an illegal sale of drugs. The other party involved in the transaction was in a pick up truck.
During the transaction, an argument erupted and the pick up truck began to move forward with Vicars -Goings still attached to the truck.
Police say the victim was struck several times by one of the people inside the vehicle. He dropped to the side of the truck and subsequently was run over.
Police have already arrested three other suspects in this case.
