News 10 has confirmed a drowning in Parke County.

The sheriff’s department said it happened Monday night at the Jackson Covered Bridge. Indiana Department of Natural Resource officers say John Androusky, 27, died in the drowning.

Indiana Conservation Officer Chris Springstun stated Tuesday that he does not believe there was any foul play, but that it was an accident.

In a release, officials stated Androusky had been hiking with a friend on Sugar Creek Conservation Area when he reportedly swam across Sugar Creek and back.

A witness reported he was standing near the water’s edge when he collapsed into the water. Officials believe Androusky suffered a seizure that caused him to fall into the water. They were not able to retrieve him in time.

The autopsy to be performed Tuesday is strictly routine.

The bridge, also known as Rockport Covered Bridge, crosses Sugar Creek just northwest of Bloomingdale.
