In his 5th and final try, Shakamak Head Coach Chip Sweet left Victory Field with a state championship on Saturday.
It was an All-Wabash Valley match up between the Lakers and the Rockville Rox. Rockville jumped out early. The Rox scored in the first inning, then again in the third to take a 2-0 lead.
With ace Dalton Laney on the mound, it looked like that could be enough, but it wasn’t to be. Shakamak broke through in the fifth.
Brett Yeryar singled to right field to drive in the Lakers first run of the ball game. Later in the inning, Michael Huddleston hit a flare to right that plated two more. That two run single proved to be the difference.
Braxton Yeryar settled in and threw yet another complete game for Shakamak. The Lakers win 3-2 in Chip Sweet’s last game at the helm.
