Lightning safety awareness week begins

CHICAGO, Ill. (WTHI) – Lightning Safety Awareness Week kicks off today through June 28th. It is part of a campaign to keep you and your families safe when severe weather strikes.

FEMA’s Region V office in Chicago will be taking part in the week. The office will be distributing information about protecting your property in a storm, and even staying safe outdoors if lightning is close.

Officials encourage everyone to educate themselves on preparedness and safety during severe weather.
