VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – One local mission having to make a tough decision as they close two thrift stores in the area.
Lighthouse Mission tells News 10 that their thrift store in Brazil, and on Poplar Street in Terre Haute, will close at the end of the month.
Both stores will be closing down for two different reasons.
The thrift store’s building along Poplar Street is up for a tax sale. It will go back to the bank and eventually be auctioned off.
As for the store in Brazil, lengthy construction is to blame. Roadway construction, projected to last from two to two and a half years, is actually hurting business for the thrift shop.
Losing two stores will leave Lighthouse Mission with three remaining. The mission relies on revenue from its stores to provide service to those in need, including food, clothing and shelter.
Plans of opening another store are not in the sights of the mission at this time.
