TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – Following the federal court ruling declaring the Indiana gay marriage ban unconstitutional, one local same-sex couple applied for a marriage license in Vigo County.
On Wednesday afternoon Donnica Barrett and Nikkole McKinley-Barrett were the first same-sex couple in Vigo County to be married. Earlier on Wednesday, the judge said the ban on gay marriage violated the equal protection clause of the U.S. Constitution.
The Vigo County Courthouse will remain open until 7 p.m. for those wanting to apply for a marriage license. The west door will be open.
News 10 has a crew at the courthouse and will bring you more details tonight on News 10.
