VINCENNES, Ind. (WTHI) – The 2014 ‘Spirit of ’76’ honor will be awarded posthumously to Brad Deetz by the Vincennes Fourth of July committee.

“Very few people have freely given so much of themselves for the betterment of our community than Brad Deetz,” explained Vincennes Mayor, Joe Yochum. “His spirit of caring for others and for making Vincennes and Knox County a better place to live exemplified the meaning of volunteerism.”

Deetz’s involvement in the community included the gifts of his time, talent, energy and resources.

His family will accept the ‘Spirit of ‘76’ award on his behalf during ceremonies immediately following the July 4 Parade in the Vincennes Riverfront Pavilion.

“We are sincerely grateful for the efforts of the volunteers named in those letters for their help as well in making Vincennes and Knox County a great place to live and raise a family,” stated Yochum.
