Woman hit by car listed in ‘serious condition’


WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – 3:40 PM UPDATE: Candy Story is now listed in ‘serious condition’ at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

7/2 UPDATE: West Terre Haute police were called to the scene of an accident around 9:30 Tuesday evening involving a car and a pedestrian.

Officers report when arriving to the scene at 223 S. 9th Street in West Terre Haute, they found a group of people surrounding a pedestrian. They observed a large amount of firework debris on the ground in the area.

The driver, James Worrell, stated he was going north on S. 9th Street when he came to a stop at the intersection of Miller Avenue. He then proceeded to continue through the intersection when he heard his vehicle hit an object that he thought was a dog.

Two witnesses also stated they heard a loud noise they assumed was a dog being hit until.

The pedestrian was identified as Candy Story.

Story was taken to Methodist Hospital with moderate to major abrasions to her face. Officials reported she was bending over to light fireworks on N. 9th Street when she was hit and that the driver could not see her.
