VINCENNES, Ind. (WTHI) – With a little more than month of possible operational time left for the Rainbow Beach Family Aquatic Center, Vincennes City leadership told News 10 Monday, the under-construction pool now has a tentative grand opening date set for July 19.
News 10 last checked in on the pool’s progress May 29.
“Things here in the last couple weeks have really started to shape up. We’re down to pouring the last parts of the concrete, then getting in all of the shade structures, fencing around the area, so hopefully, the goal is maybe July 19,” said Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum.
Construction staffers on the job site Monday told News 10 the pool construction was finished, and the liner only needed minor work to be ready to take on water. Diving blocks were installed and ADA accessible pool chairs had also been installed in two locations.
Crews worked to install a rail system around the pool’s massive slide. Crews and city leaders agreed that construction would remain on schedule unless another round of rain moved through Knox County, which could delay some finishing touch work.
“Depending on the weather, I know it’s supposed to rain [Monday] and [Tuesday], but hopefully get the rest of this concrete poured this week,” said Yochum.
Despite the delay, the Mayor stated that people have remained in high spirits about the pool’s grand opening.
“Well I can tell you that people are staying enthused because, especially if you come out here in the evening to check on things, there’s always people out walking around and trying to look back in the back to see how its going,” said Yochum.
