Equipment struck by lightning, catches pole on fire

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – Either overnight or early this morning, a piece of equipment at or near 19th and Margaret took a lightning strike that caused damage to a pole.

News 10 went to the scene after reports of traffic issues when officers began blocking the intersection of 13th and Margaret and 19th and Margaret.

The pole that took the damage was still smoking and showing some flames this morning around 11.

Officials were at the scene this morning waiting for Duke Energy to arrive who was busy replacing power in Clay County after the storms yesterday.

Rick Burger with Duke Energy stated Wolfe’s Auto Auction to 25th Street on Margaret Avenue are still without power. But, also stated power should be restored in the next couple of hours.

Crews are still at scene where they have to replace the pole and the equipment.
